Deputy Mayor Lauds Benazir Income Support Program for Aiding Poor Women

Karachi: Deputy Mayor Karachi, Salman Abdullah Murad, commended the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), initiated by the Pakistan People’s Party, for its role in providing economic support to impoverished women across Pakistan, suggesting that the model be adopted internationally.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, during a visit to the BISP office in the KMC Building, Deputy Mayor Murad, alongside BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid, highlighted the program’s global recognition and its fundamental aim to alleviate poverty and uplift marginalized communities, especially women. The BISP, established in 2008, has been pivotal in enhancing the social and economic welfare of women and empowering them within Pakistani society.

The visit included briefings on the program’s impact and discussions on its expansion, with the presence of key BISP officials like Zulfiqar Ali Sheikh and Syed Zulqarnain Haider Shah. Deputy Mayor Murad also interacted with women registering for the program, underscoring the government’s commitment to providing sustainable social security.
