Islamabad: A depression over the west-central Arabian Sea has continued its northwestward movement over the past 12 hours and is now positioned significantly closer to Oman, As per the latest updates from meteorologists. The weather system, which is currently located approximately 1150 km southwest of Karachi and 830 km southwest of Gwadar, is not expected to pose a threat to the coastal areas of Pakistan.
According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, the depression now lies at latitude 18.6N and longitude 58.4E, about 130 km southeast of Duqm and 190 km south-southwest of Masirah in Oman. It is anticipated to move further northwest towards the coast of Oman and is expected to weaken into a well-marked low pressure area by the morning of October 16. Associated squally winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/hour with gusts up to 50 km/hour are likely around the center of the system, and sea conditions are expected to remain rough until the morning.
The forecast center has reassured that none of Pakistan’s coastal areas are currently under threat from this weather system.
