‘Democracy in India ends where J and K begins’, IIOJK completes 5 years under Delhi’s direct rule

Srinagar, June 20, 2023 (PPI-OT): Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has completed five years under New Delhi’s direct rule, without a political government being elected through elections, something critics term a negation of India’s own narrative that it has been propagating to counter the UN-granted referendum in the territory. People Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti resigned from the post of the puppet chief minister on June 19, 2018 after her ally party Bharatiya Janata Party withdrew support to her government.

On August 5, 2019, New Delhi unlawfully revoked Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated the territory into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The regime was strongly criticized by the regional political parties National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party over the continued aristocratic rule in the territory.

In a sarcastic tweet, National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah said democracy in India ends where Jammu and Kashmir begins. “Democracy is in our veins; it is in our culture’; ‘India is the mother of democracy’; ‘India is the temple of democracy’. Great sounding words that the international community lap up and regurgitate ad-nauseam. Meanwhile J and K completes 5 years under central [Delhi] rule today. Democracy ends where J and K begins,” he tweeted.
