Demo in Srinagar against sentencing of youth to life imprisonment by Indian court

Srinagar, November 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a protest demonstration was held in Srinagar, today, against awarding of life imprisonment to Kashmiri youth by an Indian court. A special court of India’s dreaded National Investigation (NIA) in New Delhi sentenced five innocent Kashmiris for life in a false case registered against them. Those sentenced for life imprisonment were Meraaj-ud-Din Chopan of Tral, Pulwama, Sajjad Ahmad Khan of Pulwama, Bilal Ahmad Mir of Tral, Muzaffar Ahmad Butt of Tral, and Ishfaq Ahmad Butt of Khalpora, Islamabad. The court also sentenced Tanveer Ahmad Ganai of Mandoora area of Pulwama for five years’ rigorous imprisonment.

The family members of Meraaj-ud-Din Chopan appeared at Press Enclave in Srinagar. The protesters, mainly women and children, maintained that Meraaj has been facing illegal detention in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail for the last four years. They said that he was a labour taking care of his six sisters and old mother. “He is innocent. He was arrested by police on fake cases,” they said, demanding his immediate release. The protesting family members appealed to the world human rights organizations to take notice of the matter and help in release of all illegally detained Kashmiri youth including Meraaj-ud-Din.
