Delhi University Students Detained Amid Anti-CAA Protests

New Delhi, A wave of dissent swept through Delhi University’s Arts Faculty as police detained around 50 students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), escalating tensions in an already charged atmosphere.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration saw a significant turnout of students near the Arts Faculty, united in their condemnation of the CAA as discriminatory. The protest, led by members of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), highlighted growing opposition to the legislation, recently enacted by the central government.

A high-ranking police official disclosed that the demonstrators, positioned near the university’s Central Library opposite the Arts Faculty, were detained to disperse the gathering and maintain order. They were subsequently taken to a local police station, with assurances of their imminent release. The event mirrors a broader national sentiment, with similar protests unfolding at Jamia Millia Islamia University, where students are vocally challenging the CAA’s legitimacy.

The incident underscores a broader context of unrest and resistance among student communities in India, particularly in academic hubs like Delhi University, where many view the CAA as a fundamental challenge to secular and democratic values.
