Delhi Muslim Students Allege Harassment in School Complaint

New Delhi: A group of Muslim students in North Delhi has lodged a complaint alleging harassment and discrimination in their school environment. The complaint, which has been detailed in a letter, accuses school staff of forcing students to chant “Jai Shree Ram” and subjecting them to various forms of abuse.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the letter was written by lawyer and education activist Ashok Agarwal and addressed to Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena. It accuses two teachers, Adarsh Sharma and Vikash Kumar, of severe misconduct, including physical abuse and threats of releasing compromising videos to silence the students. The complaint also alleges that students from marginalized communities were relegated to the back of the classroom, while those from dominant castes sat in the front.

The letter further describes a pattern of derogatory comments and neglect within the school, citing previous instances in which students reported discrimination but were allegedly silenced. Agarwal has called for a high-level inquiry, asserting that past investigations failed to address the issues.

This situation is reminiscent of other incidents of communal bias in Indian educational institutions, including a recent case involving a Delhi teacher accused of making anti-Muslim remarks.
