Delhi court extends judicial custody of Khurram Parvez, Irfan Meraj

New Delhi, June 14, 2023 (PPI-OT): A Delhi Court has prolonged judicial custody of Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez and journalist Irfan Meraj in a fake case registered against them under black law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2020. The case was filed by the dreaded India’s National Investigation Agency in October 2020 against Parvez and Meraj related to so-called foreign funding.

On June 9, Patiala House Court’s Principal District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg granted the NIA’s request for an extension of both Parvez and Mehraj’s judicial custody and the duration of the probe. The NIA had asked for a 180-day extension; however, the court gave it 45 more days.

After receiving a transit remand from a local court, Meraj, who was arrested on March 20 from Srinagar, was transported to Delhi. On March 22, he was then presented before Patiala House Courts. Parvez, who was already in NIA prison in another fake case, was also detained on the same day, and they both were remanded to NIA custody for 10 days. Political analysts believe that the duo is facing the Modi regime’s wrath because of exposing its brutalities in their respective fields both at home and abroad.
