Delhi court dismisses 2019 Jamia CAA protest cases against all student activists 

New Delhi, February 04, 2023 (PPI-OT):A court in New Delhi has discharged all eleven student leaders in a fake case of Jamia Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protest case. Safoora Zargar, Sharjeel Imam, Aasif Iqbal Tanha, Chanda Yadav, Mohammad Abuzar, Umair Ahmad, Mohammad Shoaib, Mahmood Anwar, Mohd Qasim, Bilal Nadeem, and Shahzar Raza Khan are among the student leaders. Additional Sessions Judge Arul Varma at Saket district court, while discharging the students, said: “It would be pertinent to underscore that dissent is nothing but an extension of the invaluable fundamental right to Freedom of Speech and Expression contained in Article 19 of the Constitution of India, subject to the restrictions contained. It is therefore a right which we are sworn to uphold.”

Advocate, Supreme Court of India Abubakr in its twitter wrote, Congratulations, Jamia Anti CAA Violence/Rioting case was finally discharged. Alhamdulillah, My all 4 accused was acquitted respectfully. I’ve represented in this case, namely: Mahmood Anwar, Mohd. Qasim, Shehzar Raza Khan and Umair Ahmad. However, Sharjeel Imam will continue to remain in jail in another case imposed on him in connection with protest demonstrations against controversial Citizenship Amendment Act in 2020 that led to anti-Muslim riots in northeast Delhi riots.

Police had registered an FIR under various sections in connection with the communal violence that erupted after a clash between police and people protesting against CAA introduced by the Modi government.
