Delhi Court Delays Bail Decision for Kashmiri MP Engineer Rashid to September

Srinagar: The Patiala House Court in Delhi has postponed its decision on the bail plea of Kashmiri Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid until September 11, 2024. Rashid, who was recently elected to the Lok Sabha, remains detained on charges related to a 2016 case and is currently held in Tihar Jail.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the court of Additional Sessions Judge decided to reserve its judgment on August 27, after concluding the hearing on Rashid’s bail application. The court had previously issued a notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) concerning Rashid’s involvement in the alleged case.

Earlier in July, amidst legal battles, the court had allowed Rashid a brief two-hour custodial parole to be sworn in as a Lok Sabha member following his electoral win in the Baramulla constituency during the 2024 Indian General Elections. Rashid won the seat by a significant margin, defeating National Conference leader and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by approximately one lakh votes.
