New Delhi, A New Delhi court today extended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until April 1st, concerning the excise policy case, highlighting ongoing legal proceedings against the city’s top official.
According to Kashmir Media Service, although the ED had requested a seven-day extension for Kejriwal’s custody, the court ordered his appearance before it on April 1 at 11 am. The decision was made by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja at Rouse Avenue court as Kejriwal’s previous custody term was concluding.
The ED, in its plea for extended custody, argued that Kejriwal had been interrogated on five separate days and was accused of providing evasive responses. The agency also noted that it had recorded the statements of three additional individuals during the remand period.
During the court hearing, Kejriwal, representing himself in Hindi after seeking permission from the judge, contested the charges, asserting that an unfounded narrative of corruption within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was being constructed. Despite the presence of his legal counsel, Kejriwal chose to make personal submissions to the court.
Amidst these legal challenges, Kejriwal’s health came under concern, with his wife Sunita Kejriwal reporting fluctuating sugar levels and alleging that her husband was facing considerable harassment. Speaking to reporters outside the court, she expressed her distress over his treatment and voiced confidence that public sentiment would ultimately respond to the perceived injustices.
