New Delhi, In anticipation of the INDIA bloc’s protest against the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, heightened security measures, including multiple layers of barricades and a significant deployment of police forces, have been implemented in the vicinity of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the security preparations involve not only the local police but also paramilitary forces, underscoring the authorities’ effort to maintain order during the protests. These measures have been concentrated in central Delhi, especially on routes leading to the BJP’s main office, where the opposition INDIA bloc has planned its demonstration for today.
The protest stems from Kejriwal’s recent arrest on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate, linking him to a money-laundering case associated with Delhi’s excise policy. The AAP announced on Thursday that its members, along with supporters from the INDIA bloc, would rally against both Kejriwal’s detention and issues surrounding electoral bonds at the BJP headquarters on DDU Marg.
In response to the planned demonstrations, the Delhi Police have enforced prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC across DDU Marg and adjacent areas to prevent large assemblies. This move comes as the AAP continues its series of protests, which began last week following Kejriwal’s arrest, indicating a significant standoff between the ruling and opposition parties in the capital.
