Defence and Martyrs Day Celebrated in Ankara with Prominent Turkish and Pakistani Officials


Ankara: Pakistan’s Defence and Martyrs Day was commemorated in Ankara, honoring the armed forces and martyrs who have upheld the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability. The event witnessed the presence of Turkish and Pakistani dignitaries, emphasizing the strong defense ties and cooperation between the two nations.



According to Press Information Department, the ceremony was attended by notable figures including the Turkish Minister of Trade H.E Prof. Dr. Omer Bolat as the chief guest and Commander Turkish General Staff (TGS) General Metin Gurak as the guest of honor. The event also saw participation from various high-ranking officials, diplomats, and community members from both Turkey and Pakistan. In his speech, Minister Bolat underscored the flourishing bilateral relations and highlighted a significant increase in trade volume by 42% within the year, expressing a mutual commitment to reaching a $5 billion trade target. He also acknowledged the contributions of Ambassador Junaid in enhancing Pakistan-Turkey economic ties.



General Gurak paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistani martyrs and the valor of their armed forces, noting the strategic partnership and shared defense industry expertise as pillars strengthening both nations’ defense capabilities. Ambassador Dr. Yousaf Junaid, marking the historical context of the day, reflected on Pakistan’s enduring struggles for peace and sovereignty, stressing the importance of dialogue and cooperation over conflict. He also highlighted the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute as a significant obstacle to regional peace.



The event not only commemorated Pakistan’s Defence Day, observed annually on September 6th to remember the 1965 war efforts but also served as a platform to reinforce the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkey, with both sides showing a strong front of unity and support.
