New Delhi, October 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): At least 26 people have died in the flash floods in Sikkim while 142 people are still missing. According to Kashmir Media Service, the report from the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) said the floods have caused damage to 1,203 houses. The glacial-fed Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim triggered a flash flood in Teesta River basin on October 4.
The disaster inflicted severe damage, with 1,173 houses suffering extensive harm, 26 people sustaining injuries, and 13 bridges being washed away. 6,875 individuals are currently residing in 22 relief camps, while 25,065 people have been affected by the floods, the report said.
