Deadline for Asset Disclosure by Pakistani Lawmakers Approaches

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has reminded Members of Parliament and Provincial Assemblies to submit their annual statements of assets and liabilities by December 31, 2024. This mandate includes disclosures of the assets and liabilities of their spouses and dependent children for the financial year 2023-24, as required under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017.

According to Press Information Department, the Elections Act stipulates that lawmakers must provide these disclosures using Form-B, reflecting their financial status as of June 30 of the preceding financial year. Failure to comply by the deadline will result in the Election Commission publishing the names of non-compliant members on January 1, 2025. If the required documentation is not submitted by January 15, 2025, the commission will suspend the membership of the delinquent members until compliance is achieved.

The press release also noted that if a submitted statement is found to contain false information, the concerned member could face proceedings for corrupt practices within 120 days of submission. Form-B and related guidelines are available without charge at the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad and other designated locations, and can also be downloaded from the Election Commission’s website.
