Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called for a reinforced alliance between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations to foster peace and tolerance globally amidst escalating conflicts. Addressing an OIC high-level gathering in New York commemorating the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, Dar stressed that this collaboration should prioritize interfaith dialogue, protecting religious sites and symbols, and countering terrorism and extremism.
He also advocated for increased humanitarian aid, including utilizing Islamic financial instruments like Zakat and Waqf, and empowering young people and women through education, technology, and involvement in peacebuilding. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the universal significance of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings and cited the Charter of Medina as a model of pluralism and interfaith harmony. He underscored how the Prophet’s message, rooted in justice, tolerance, and peace, aligns with the UN Charter’s principles.
