Islamabad: The Implementation Committee on Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dams (ICDBMD) convened to review progress on land acquisition and resettlement for the Diamer Basha Dam Project. The meeting was chaired by ICDBMD/WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (Retd) and attended by key stakeholders, including regional officials and representatives from the Water and Power Development Authority.

According to Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority, the meeting focused on compliance with previous decisions and addressed compensation issues related to the ‘Missing and Double Chula (Household) Package’ for those affected by the project. Discussions also covered unresolved land matters, boundary disputes, and progress on agreements with local communities.

Chairman Saeed emphasized the crucial role of the Diamer Basha Dam Project in enhancing Pakistan’s water, food, and energy security. He urged all stakeholders to expedite the project’s completion and called for collaboration from local communities to ensure smooth construction activities. The Chairman highlighted WAPDA’s commitment to the 2025 Agreement and encouraged local participation for the project’s successful execution.

Diamer Basha Dam, a significant infrastructure project on the River Indus, is set to store 8.1 million acre-feet of water and generate 4,500 megawatts of electricity, contributing to the stabilization of the national economy.
