Agra, March 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):A 20-year-old Dalit youth was beaten up allegedly by some upper caste men in Mainpuri’s Tariha Ramnagar village on Wednesday, as his brother had damaged a plastic pipe, supplying water to the latter’s fields, last week.
An FIR has been registered against four persons but no arrest has been made yet. The victim, Shailendra Kumar, works as a labourer in NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and he told media persons that the water pipe was accidentally damaged by his brother’s moped a week ago.
On Wednesday, when he was going to work, the four accused thrashed him badly and used casteist slurs too. The video of the incident, which went viral on social media, shows a few people putting the boot in and slapping Kumar while he was seen crying and begging them to leave him alone.
Meanwhile some local residents intervened and saved him. The four accused named in the police complaint are Kaptan Singh Chauhan, and his son Mohit Chauhan, Kanhaiya Singh Chauhan and Sudhir Dixit. Deputy SP Chandrakesh Singh told TOI that the FIR has been registered against four people under IPC Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and sections of SC/ST Act at Kishani police station.
