Dalit Man Dies in Police Custody, Sparking Protests in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: A 35-year-old Dalit man was killed at a police station in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Madhya Pradesh state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the death of Mukesh Longre, who died during an interrogation at Satwas police station in Dewas district, has sparked protests against what demonstrators have called the murder of the victim in police custody.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the Congress party, which has accused the Mohan Yadav-led BJP government of fostering “jungle raj” in the state. The family of Longre has demanded accountability, describing the death as a murder while in police custody.

Longre’s death occurred following a complaint submitted against him by a woman on December 26, though no formal charges were filed against him. Judicial Magistrate First Class Nandani Uikey, who is conducting an inquiry into the incident, has visited the site as part of the investigation.

In a separate incident in Gujarat, four workers died after inhaling toxic fumes due to a gas leak at a chemical plant in Dahej, Bharuch district.
