Dalit children beaten by police in Bihar for playing DJ, villagers sit on dharna in protest

Aurangabad, March 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): The police beat up the children of a Dalit family for playing DJ on Holi in Aurangabad district of the Indian state of Bihar. In Bantara village of Devkund police station of Aurangabad district of Bihar, a case of mercilessly beating up children and women of a Mahadalit family by the police for playing DJ on the night of Holi has come to light. Media reports said, in protest, the people of the village started an indefinite sit-in against the police, which is still going on.

As per a media report, hundreds of women and men sat on an indefinite dharna with placards in their hands in the courtyard of the Devi temple of Bantara village against the police brutality and assault on women and children by the Devkund police station. During this, slogans were raised against the police administration. The people sitting on the dharna have demanded action against Police Station President Subodh Kumar Singh and withdrawal of the fake cases against the villagers.

On the second day of the dharna, a five-member delegation of CPI (Communist Party of India) joined the dharna and supported the movement and raised the voice of the victims.
