Lucknow, January 25, 2023 (PPI-OT):A 10-year-old Dalit boy was killed by a group of upper caste Hindus over a property dispute in Badaun district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The Class 3 student went missing on Sunday evening and his body was found, hours later, hanging from a tree in a village farm. The incident occurred in Rafatpur that has a mixed population of upper castes and Dalits. The present village head is a Dalit.

As per the boy’s family, Gurjeet, the victim, was playing in the farm near the disputed part of the land when the accused men caught the boy, strangled him to death and tied him to a tree. The men fled after noticing a few villagers in the area. As per the police, a case has been registered against three persons – Matru Singh, Munesh Singh and Sher Singh.

According to reports, Omkar Jatav, grandfather of the victim boy, said, “The accused ‘had encroached upon our farmland for almost 15 years.” He said the accused are influential people and he had lodged multiple complaints against them in the past, but no action was taken against them by the police and the revenue department. The police said the matter is being investigated and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
