Crisis in Manipur Escalates as Ethnic and Religious Tensions Intensify

Imphal: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins his third term, minorities in India, particularly in Manipur, are facing increased challenges due to heightened ethnic, linguistic, and religious tensions. The situation in Manipur has escalated dramatically, with conflicts intensifying among local communities amid accusations of governmental neglect and exacerbation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) extremist policies are blamed for deepening the crises, leading to widespread violence and the deprivation of basic rights. In Manipur, the violence between the Matti and Kuki communities has reached a critical point, perceived by many as exacerbated by orchestrated government actions rather than an attempt to restore peace.

The conflict has led to severe measures including the reimposition of curfews in the Imphal Valley and heightened military presence. Recent developments have seen separatist groups intensifying their attacks, including rocket assaults in Bishnopur district that have resulted in substantial property damage and increased civilian casualties.

The situation has further deteriorated with drone and rocket attacks by armed groups, targeting both civilians and political figures, such as the residence of former Chief Minister Myrimama Koereng Singh. These acts of violence have compelled extensive military search operations, complicating the lives of local residents and pushing many into refugee-like conditions within their own region.

The international community has expressed growing concern over the ongoing crisis, criticizing the Indian government’s handling of the situation and its apparent failure to curb the rising tide of militancy and violence. Critics argue that the Modi administration is using extremist elements to advance its political agenda, neglecting effective conflict resolution and exacerbating the unrest.
