Mirpurkhas: The Anti-Terrorism Court convened to hear the case concerning the cremation of Dr. Shahnawaz, who was allegedly killed in a fake encounter, with discussions focusing on the bail applications of three defendants. The Sindh government has been urged to assist in apprehending fugitive police officers.
According to Bureau of Statistics Punjab, the hearing addressed the bail requests of Maulvi Ahmad Shahani, Mehboob Sand, and Naveed. Lawyers for the accused argued that Shahani was not present at the scene, Sand was unwell, and Naveed’s young age warranted bail. However, Dr. Shahnawaz’s legal representative, Advocate Sajjad Chandio, presented evidence, including a Facebook post and a video, suggesting the involvement of the accused in obstructing the funeral and burning the body. Chandio emphasized that the Sindh government’s preliminary investigation report implicated the accused, expressing hope that bail would be denied on December 3.
Advocate Mir Ahmad Mangrio highlighted the need for the Sindh government’s intervention in arresting the police personnel involved, as the FIA’s preliminary report indicated a lack of recorded statements from police authorities. The outcome of this case, he noted, holds significant implications for justice in society.
