Karachi, The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has accused the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of attempting to weaken the parliamentary system in India, claiming that efforts are underway to render the Parliament opposition-free.
According to Kashmir Media Service, CPI-M West Bengal state secretary Muhammad Salim criticized the BJP government during a press conference in Kolkata. He expressed concerns over the current state of parliamentary democracy in India, stating, “We have seen in the last few days how the parliamentary system is being decimated.”
Salim highlighted the recent incident of a security breach in Parliament on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, pointing out the inadequacies in security and surveillance in the new complex. He condemned the suspension of opposition members who questioned the security lapse, noting that 143 opposition MPs have been suspended from the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha since last week for demanding the resignation of Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister.
This statement from the CPI-M reflects growing tensions and challenges within the Indian political landscape, particularly concerning the role and voice of the opposition in the parliamentary process.
