CPEC Advances into New Phase with Key Infrastructure and Energy Projects


Islamabad, The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has entered a new phase of development, marked by significant progress in various infrastructure and energy projects. This next phase includes the advancement of the Karot hydropower project, a critical 720 megawatt plant on the Jhelum River, which has successfully generated 3.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2023.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the report from Global Times outlines the broader objectives for the next phase of CPEC, as discussed by Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi. Hashmi emphasized the multi-pronged approach to the corridor’s development, focusing on enhancing connectivity, industrialization, and agriculture. Notably, the optimization of the ML-1 railway project and the realignment of the Karakoram Highway are set to witness tangible advancements, underlining the commitment to improving the infrastructure backbone of Pakistan.



Furthermore, the envoy highlighted the concerted efforts to bolster the security and safety measures for Chinese personnel and projects within Pakistan, ensuring the smooth continuation and completion of ongoing and future initiatives under the CPEC framework. This strategic partnership between China and Pakistan aims to foster economic growth, regional connectivity, and mutual development benefits for both countries.
