New Delhi: A group of cow vigilantes attacked three Muslim cattle traders in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, while they were legally transporting buffaloes to an animal market. The traders were also subjected to attempts of extortion by the mob.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the attack occurred in the Odhav area on February 19. The victims, identified as Ishaq, Mohammed Farooq, and Musharraf Ahmed, were assaulted by a group of 20-25 individuals. Ishaq sustained significant injuries, including a fractured jaw, and is receiving medical treatment.

Advocate Nauman, representing the victims, informed the media that an FIR was filed under section 307 following a substantial social media outcry. He noted that the cattle traders were detained at the local police station for several hours and were released only after agreeing not to pursue action against their assailants.

Nauman further stated that he had to question the local police on their reluctance to file an FIR. It was only after his intervention that the police registered the FIR, despite earlier attempts to pressurize the victims into a compromise with their attackers.

A police official reportedly told Nauman that, based on his eight years of experience, no action would be taken against the attackers. The official also suggested that a financial settlement should be reached.

Musharraf, one of the injured traders, recounted the incident to local media, stating that the mob intercepted them and demanded 1.50 lakh rupees. He detailed how the attackers used sticks to assault them, resulting in serious injuries to his brother Ishaq, and necessitated immediate medical attention.
