Chandigarh, March 16, 2023 (PPI-OT): Cow vigilantes assaulted a Muslim truck driver in Palwal city of the Indian state of Haryana on suspicion of transporting the animals. The violent cow vigilantes are the self-declared guardians of cows. A video making rounds on social media shows the cow vigilantes attacking the young Muslim truck driver and taking away the animals.

The incidents of cow vigilante attacks on innocent Muslim men have increased since the fascist Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India in 2014. These assaults frequently rest only on suppositions or rumours. Speaking to the media, a social activist from Palwal said it was the government’s duty to take stern action against these Hindutva organisations and make sure the rule of law is upheld.

“The authorities must also tackle the underlying issues that are fuelling such vigilantism, such as religious intolerance and hatred towards minorities,” media reports quoted him as saying.
