COVID-19 claims 22 more patients, infects 1,471 others –

Karachi, August 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):As many as 22 more patients of Coronavirus died overnight lifting the death toll to 6,497 and 1,471 new cases emerged when 17,822 tests were conducted. This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Tuesday. He added that 22 more patients of COVID-19 lost their lives lifting the death toll to 6,497 that constituted 1.6 percent death rate.

Mr. Shah said that 17,822 samples were tested which detected 1,471 cases that constituted 8.3 percent current detection rate. He added that so far 5,316,306 tests have been conducted against which 414,833 cases were diagnosed, of them 87 percent or 361,265 patients have recovered, including 796 overnight. The CM said that currently 47,071 patients were under treatment; of them 45,672 were in home isolation, 38 at isolation centers and 1,361 at different hospitals.

He added that the condition of 1,207 patients was stated to be critical, including 97 shifted to ventilators. According to the statement, out of 1,471 new cases, 866 have been detected from Karachi, including 281 from East, 187 South, 134 Central, 113 Malir, 110 Korangi and 41 West.

Hyderabad has 134, Mirpurkhas 44, Thatta 41, Matiari and Sanghar 37 each, Qamber 31, Sukkur 29, Tharparkar 28, Shaheed Benazirabad 27, Badin and Ghotki 25 each, Khairpur 22, Shikarpur 20, Tando Allahyar 19, Umarkot 13, Dadu 12, Sujawal ten, Jacobabad eight, Kashmore seven, Jamshoro and Larkana two each.

Sharing vaccination data the CM said that 9,505,344 vaccinations have been administered upto August 15, and added during the last 24 hours 154,929 vaccines were inoculated – in total 9,505,344 vaccines have administered which constituted 27.92 percent of the vaccine eligible population. Murad Ali Shah urged people to abide by the SOPs issued by the government.
