Baku: A six-member delegation from Pakistan, led by Prime Minister’s Coordinator Romina Khurshid Alam, engaged in a meeting with the COP29 President and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, to discuss bilateral cooperation on environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting took place amidst the 29th Session of the Conference of Parties in Baku, attended by representatives from over 196 countries. Discussions centered on climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity building. Alam extended congratulations to Babayev on behalf of the Pakistani government for the successful organization of the conference.
Alam highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, noting its minimal contribution to global emissions but significant susceptibility due to geographic and economic factors. She emphasized Pakistan’s efforts to build international partnerships to enhance global cooperation on crucial issues such as climate finance and technology transfer.
Babayev assured Alam of Azerbaijan’s support in addressing Pakistan’s climate challenges and in promoting climate resilience for its population. Both parties urged developed nations to commit to providing necessary financial support to address the needs of developing countries at the COP29 discussions. Alam also announced plans for Pakistan to host a conference for the Vulnerable Twenty Group (V20) countries next year to discuss climate risks and funding solutions.
