Cop killed in IED blast in Chhattisgarh, eighth victim to Maoist attacks in few weeks

Raipur, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):A 58-year-old policeman was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Maoist-prone Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh Monday morning. He was the eight security personnel killed by Maoists in the past few weeks in the state.

The incident occurred around 7.40 am around a new police camp in the Timenar village. The victim, Vijay Yadav, was part of an area domination exercise and accidentally stepped on the pressured IED hidden between Etepal and Timenar villages. Yadav was a resident of Jagdalpur and a native of Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, said officials.

On February 26, a 43-year-old security man from the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Orchha development block of Narayanpur district. A day earlier on February 25, three personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were killed in the Sukma district and before that, two were killed in Rajnandgaon and one in Dantewada, according to officials.
