Islamabad, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Convener Pakistan- Iraq Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ms. Shagufta Jumani, MNA, met with the H.E Mr. Hamid Abbas Lafta, the Ambassador of Iraq to Pakistan at the Embassy of Iraq, Islamabad. Ms. Shagufta Jumani reaffirmed to continue collaborating closely to further strengthen bilateral ties. She said that the long-standing ties of cooperation between the two countries rooted deep in shared faith, common values and cultural affinities; and reiterated the desire to further boost the bilateral relations in all fields.
She stressed the need for bolstering ties and called for unity amongst the Muslim states. Matters pertaining to Pakistani Zaireen visiting Iraq and people-to-people contact between the two countries also came under discussion. While appreciating the measures taken by the Iraqi government for the well-being of the Zaireen, the Convener requested for further facilitation in visas and travel, particularly during Ashura Muharram and Arbaeen.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq stated that such meetings could play a pivotal role in promoting Parliamentary diplomacy, people to people contacts and promoting Parliamentary relations through parliamentary exchanges. Both sides agreed to focus on strengthening bilateral institutional collaboration; enhance frequency of exchange of delegations further increasing high level contacts.
