Continued house detention of Mirwaiz strongly condemned

Srinagar, March 31, 2023 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, has strongly condemned the occupation authorities over the continued house detention of its chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The Anjuman Auqaf in a statement in Srinagar, today, said the Mirwaiz was not allowed to perform his important religious duty of offering Juma prayer, today, at the historic mosque even on the second Friday of the blessed month of Ramadan.

“Today, it was 188th Juma since Mirwaiz has been under house arrest. The people who came in large numbers from various parts of the Kashmir Valley to offer Friday prayers and listen to the sermon of the Mirwaiz at the Jamia Masjid were not only severely disappointed, but also expressed strong resentment against the administration,” it said. The Anjuman said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s unjustified, illegal and arbitrary detention is continuing unabated and the people’s demand for his immediate and unconditional release is getting stronger with each passing day, but the authorities do not respect the public sentiments.

It urged the authorities to release the Mirwaiz and allow him to fulfill his peaceful duties so that the people can benefit from his sermons from the pulpit and Jamia Masjid in this holy month of Ramadan.
