Continued house detention of Mirwaiz strongly condemned

Srinagar, March 10, 2023 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, has denounced the authorities for over the three and a half years of arbitrary house detention of its President Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who was barred from offering Juma prayers on 185th consecutive Friday, today. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been under house arrest in Srinagar since August 5, 2019, when Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian government revoked the special status of IIOJK.

The Anjuman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that due to the illegal detention, Mirwaiz is prevented from delivering the Friday sermons from the pulpit of the Jamia Masjid, which is a direct interference in the religious affairs of the Kashmiri Muslims by the authorities.

The continued house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is a matter of serious concern for Anjuman Auqaf as well as the people, it said, adding public anxiety against his unjustified detention is increasing with each passing day. Severe disappointment is seen among the worshipers at the historic Srinagar Jamia Masjid who come from cities and towns to benefit from the wise sermons of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the statement said. The Anjuman urged the authorities to unconditionally release the Mirwaiz ahead of Ramadan so that he can fulfill his religious obligations in this holy month.
