Srinagar, February 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) has strongly condemned the continued house detention of its Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and closure of Jamia Masjid Srinagar for Juma prayers by the authorities.
The AAC in a statement said that a meeting of its Executive Council held at the party headquarters in Srinagar deplored that the authorities have kept the Mirwaiz under the house arrest since August 04, 2019, a day before the Modi regime revoked the special status of IIOJK. It said since then, all his human rights stand completely violated.
The statement said the AAC since its inception in 1963 under the leadership of Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and after his martyrdom in 1990 under the leadership of the present Chairman, advocates the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute as per the aspirations of the people and Jammu and Kashmir. It said India’s repressive measure are futile in cowing down the Kashmiri people from their principled stand and are no solution to any problem.
The AAC members reiterated that they will continue to strive for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute till the objective was achieved. They urged the Indian government to unconditionally release the Mirwaiz and all other political leaders, activists and youth from house detention and jails, without delay and initiate a process of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict. It also asked the authorities to allow Juma prayers at the Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
