Srinagar, February 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, has denounced the continued closure of the historic Jamia Masjid by the authorities.
The Anjuman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that for the 27th consecutive Friday, today, the Jamia Masjid was shut down by the authorities for devotees to offer obligatory Friday prayers, violating their fundamental right to practice religion and causing them deep sorrow and anxiety.
The Anjuman deplored that its chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has been under illegal house detention for the last two and half years. It said the Mirwaiz is being forcibly prevented from fulfilling his religious obligations and responsibilities as the Mirwaiz. This dictatorial attitude of the authorities is causing deep hurt and unease to the people of the valley, it added.
The Anjuman said despite repeated appeals to the authorities to allow Friday prayers and release the Mirwaiz, the forcible closure of Jamia Masjid and the continued house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq reflect a bigoted mindset of the authorities.
