Srinagar: The villages in Shopian district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with a severe health crisis due to a contaminated water supply. Residents have reported that the water, sourced directly from a stream via unfiltered pipes, is causing waterborne diseases and is not even suitable for laundry purposes.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the affected areas include Tangwani, Wathoo, and Daramdora villages, where the locals are facing significant health risks. The direct laying of water pipes into streams has resulted in the distribution of unfiltered and contaminated water into homes. Despite some villagers taking measures such as installing water purifiers, the risk of diseases remains high.
Earlier this year, the situation was exacerbated by a jaundice outbreak in nearby villages, which led to widespread concern among the community about the ongoing water quality issues.
Residents are calling for immediate action to address the water contamination problem to prevent further health crises in the region.
