New Delhi, October 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):Harish Rawat has been relieved as the Congress’ in-charge for Punjab and Chandigarh and has been replaced by Harish Chaudhary with immediate effect.
The party informed of the change in a press release, signed by general secretary KC Venugopal.
Rawat had met Rahul Gandhi earlier this week and urged to be relieved of his responsibilities in Punjab to allow him to concentrate on Uttarakhand that also goes to polls next year.
“In Uttarakhand, we are progressing towards a definite win. During the election, it is impossible for me to handle two states, Punjab and Uttarakhand. So I have urged our leadership to relieve me from Punjab Congress in-charge duty,” Rawat had said earlier this week.
Rawat had been the party’s Punjab in-charge during the tumultuous phase of the past few months. He had overseen the change of guard that saw Amarinder Singh replaced as Punjab Chief Minister.
