Dausa, December 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Indian National Congress has questioned the silence maintained by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Sino-India border issue. Several Indian troops were injured during a clash with the Chinese soldiers at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9. Earlier in June 2020, at least 20 Indian troops were killed and dozens injured in a similar clash in Galwan Valley in Ladakh region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Congress general secretary in-charge communications, Jairam Ramesh, in an interview in Dausa city of the Indian state of Rajasthan said while trade is “normal” with China, the border is “abnormal”. Hitting out at Narendra Modi over his “silence” on the issue, he claimed that the Prime Minister “forced” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to read a “most wishy-washy” statement in Parliament earlier this week following the recent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in Tawang.
He said, the prime minister has met the president of China 18 times and since 2020 clash in Ladakh, India’s imports from China have zoomed, and its trade deficit has ballooned. He said Chinese companies continue to prosper in India and the prime minister continues to keep silent.
Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, addressing a press conference in Jaipur, the capital of India’s Rajasthan state, maintained that China is preparing for war and the Indian government is sleeping over it and trying to ignore the threat. He also claimed that China has taken away 2,000 square kilometres of Indian Territory, killed 20 Indian soldiers and is “thrashing our jawans in Arunachal Pradesh”. The Congress has been accusing the BJP-led government of succumbing to pressure from China and not taking on the neighbouring country after the frequent border clashes.
