Congress Pledges to Restore Rights and Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The Congress party has expressed strong opposition to the policies implemented by the BJP-led government in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly following the abrogation of Article 370, and has vowed to restore the region’s rights and statehood if it comes to power.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a press briefing in Srinagar, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera sharply criticized the current administration’s approach to governance in what the party refers to as Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Khera described the actions taken by the Modi government as detrimental to the rights and autonomy of the region, stating that the region was unfairly downgraded to a Union Territory status and stripped of its rights.

Khera also remarked on the prolonged distress and instability the region has faced, calling the past decade a period of significant suffering for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He promised a new beginning and recovery, declaring, “The long night has ended and a new dawn is upon us… The Congress will mend these wounds.” He reiterated the party’s commitment to reinstating full statehood and restoring the rights previously held by the region.
