Srinagar: Tariq Hameed Karra, President of the Congress chapter in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), has called for the immediate and unconditional restoration of statehood to the region, rejecting any partial or conditional offers currently on the table.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Karra criticized the Indian government for maintaining control over crucial departments rather than fully restoring statehood as previously promised. “We are advocating for complete statehood, not for arrangements that keep crucial departments under the direct control of the Government of India. Such a scenario is unacceptable to both the Congress party and the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
Karra voiced significant discontent with the delay in fulfilling these commitments, noting that even after direct assurances from top officials like the Prime Minister and Home Minister in Parliament, the promises remain unfulfilled. He highlighted the broad support for statehood across political lines within the region, emphasizing it as a unified demand from the people of Jammu and Kashmir against what he described as unjustified withholding by the Indian government.
