New Delhi, The leader of the Indian National Congress, Gorugogoi, has openly expressed his disapproval of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists’ use of the chant “Jai Shri Ram,” highlighting a broader critique of the party’s ideological stance and actions. Gogoi’s statements reflect a deep-seated tension between the two major political parties in India, particularly over issues related to religious practices, minority rights, and socio-economic policies.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Gogoi criticized the BJP for its adherence to figures like Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, arguing that such reverence is indicative of the party’s misplaced priorities and insensitivity towards marginalized communities. He pointed out the growing discontent among these groups, noting an increase in crimes against scheduled castes and calling attention to demands for a caste-based census to address systemic exclusion from higher education and government employment opportunities.
Gogoi accused the BJP of arrogance, blaming it for the party’s failure to address critical issues such as inflation, the disenfranchisement of minorities, and instances of violence. He further argued that actions like shooting at others or desecrating places of worship belonging to different religions are fundamentally at odds with the principles of Lord Ram, whom the BJP activists frequently evoke in their slogans.
