Congress Leader Accuses BJP and RSS of Discrimination Against Dalits in Jammu

Jammu: In a forceful address, Congress leader and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for their policies and attitudes towards Dalits and other marginalized groups, accusing them of hypocrisy and discrimination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mevani, during a press conference in Jammu, condemned the BJP’s inconsistent approach towards Dalit rights, especially highlighted during the assembly elections in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and India’s Haryana state. He charged the BJP with exhibiting superficial concern for Dalits while neglecting their genuine welfare.

Mevani argued that the RSS has played a significant role in promoting intolerance and mistreatment of Dalits. “The BJP portrays itself as a well-wisher of Dalits in IIOJK and Haryana by shedding crocodile tears. Yet, they remain silent on issues affecting Dalits in Gujarat, including the diversion of funds designated for our community’s development,” he stated.

Highlighting a recent scandal, Mevani pointed out the Rs 13,000 crore scam in the Jal Jeevan Mission in IIOJK, involving Dalit IAS officer Ashok Kumar Parmar. He criticized Prime Minister Modi for his lack of response to the corruption case and questioned the absence of government action, such as filing an FIR.

“The BJP’s double standards are apparent. They claim to support Dalit causes, but when a Dalit officer exposes corruption, he is subjected to harassment and demotion instead of being protected,” Mevani noted, illustrating the government’s skewed priorities.

Mevani called upon citizens to demand a government that truly represents the interests of all communities, emphasizing the need for a future where Dalits and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) are treated with respect and dignity. He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for the rights of marginalized populations.
