Jammu: Pramod Tiwari, Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, has called for immediate accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in light of startling allegations by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik regarding the 2019 Pulwama attack. These allegations encompass both security lapses and claims of corruption that purportedly contributed to the tragedy.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Tiwari, addressing reporters in Jammu, voiced concerns over the silence of BJP leadership regarding Malik’s allegations, which suggest intelligence failures and governmental negligence in securing transport for CRPF personnel. This neglect is said to have facilitated the attack that resulted in the death of 40 soldiers. Malik’s tenure as governor under the BJP regime notably included accusations that the central government restricted air transport to move troops, a factor Malik links directly to the attack’s success.
The call for clarity did not stop at security issues; Tiwari also pressed for answers on alleged corruption involving power projects and insurance schemes in the region. He relayed Malik’s claims that post-attack, there was pressure from the highest levels of government to remain silent. Furthermore, Tiwari highlighted the unresolved questions surrounding the smuggling of RDX into Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for transparency about how such breaches in security occurred under the current administration.
Tiwari further accused the BJP of leveraging Jammu and Kashmir’s transition to a Union Territory to benefit influential business allies, thereby exploiting the region’s resources. He criticized the ongoing lack of definitive conclusions from the investigation into the Pulwama attack, calling it indicative of governmental failure.
The Congress leader’s stark admonition concluded with a call to action: “It’s time for the BJP to stop misleading the nation and address the serious questions raised by the public and the families of our fallen soldiers. The nation demands accountability,” he stated.
