New Delhi: The Indian National Congress has accused the Narendra Modi government of betraying the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir by enhancing the powers of the Lieutenant Governor, which they argue undermines the region’s autonomy.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge articulated concerns that this move delays the restoration of full statehood and subjects the newly elected government of Jammu and Kashmir to the oversight of the Lieutenant Governor, compromising its authority. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the prospects for reinstating full statehood are dim in the near future.
