Congress Criticizes Amit Shah’s Management of Jammu and Kashmir, Citing Security and Economic Concerns

New Delhi: The Indian National Congress has voiced strong criticism of Home Minister Amit Shah’s approach to managing the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), pointing to an alleged deterioration in security and economic conditions during his tenure.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Amit Shah recently began a two-day visit to the region. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to social media platform X to express his discontent with Shah’s policies since the dissolution of the coalition government between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2018.

“The self-styled Chanakya is in Jammu and Kashmir today. Since the fall of the PDP-BJP Government in 2018, Jammu and Kashmir has been administered primarily by the Home Ministry,” Ramesh wrote. He criticized the Home Minister for not effectively managing the key issues facing IIOJK.

Ramesh posed several pointed questions to Amit Shah, querying about the timeline for restoring full statehood to IIOJK, the reasons behind the worsening security situation under Shah’s watch, the apparent encroachment on the powers of the local political executive by the Indian government, and the causes of the economic downturn since 2019.

These queries underscore the Congress Party’s concerns regarding the Indian government’s handling of the complex dynamics in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting ongoing issues related to governance, security, and economic stability.
