Congress Calls for Modi’s Resignation Following Lok Sabha Election Shortfall

New Delhi, In the aftermath of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resign, citing the BJP’s failure to secure a majority as a reason for Modi to accept moral responsibility. This demand marks a significant escalation in political tensions following a closely contested election.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the call for Modi’s resignation came after preliminary election results indicated that the BJP, while leading in 236 seats, would likely fall short of the 272-seat majority needed in the Lok Sabha. Ramesh, in a statement posted on the social media platform X, argued that the results demonstrated a public shift away from Modi, suggesting that it was time for him to step down.

The Congress party, as part of the broader INDIA bloc which includes the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress, is expected to secure over 200 seats collectively. Despite Modi’s lead in Varanasi, the overall performance of the BJP has been described as underwhelming, especially given their initial target of 400 seats based on optimistic exit polls.

This election result poses a significant challenge to the BJP’s aim for a third consecutive term and puts pressure on Modi to address the shortcomings highlighted by the electoral outcome.
