New Delhi, In the wake of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing the BJP’s failure to secure a parliamentary majority as a reason for him to accept moral responsibility for the outcome. This demand marks a significant moment in Indian politics as the BJP faces a potential setback in its bid for a third consecutive term.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh led the charge with a post on X, stating that the election results signaled the end of Modi’s tenure and urged him to step down. Ramesh emphasized that the performance of the INDIA bloc, which includes Congress, indicated a public shift away from Modi’s leadership.
Election Commission of India data shows the BJP leading in 236 seats, which falls short of the 272 majority required in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc appears poised to secure over 200 seats collectively, with Congress leading in 99, Samajwadi Party in 37, and Trinamool Congress in 31.
This election has not only highlighted the competitive nature of Indian democracy but also underscored the significant challenges that the BJP faced despite setting a high target of 400 seats.
