Congress Accuses BJP of Inciting Unrest in Manipur

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deliberately inciting unrest in Manipur to advance its political agenda, amid ongoing turmoil in the northeastern state since May 2023.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Kharge, speaking to the media in New Delhi, asserted that the BJP’s “double-engine” government has left Manipur neither united nor safe. He criticized the Modi administration for its handling of the crisis, which has resulted in at least 17 deaths since November 7. Kharge expressed that the people of Manipur would not forgive the BJP for abandoning them during their time of need.

Rahul Gandhi described the violence in the state as “deeply disturbing” and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur to facilitate reconciliation. Congress leaders, including General Secretary KC Venugopal, denounced the central government’s lack of response, citing attacks on BJP legislators as a sign of the worsening situation.

The Congress party has called for urgent measures to restore peace, accusing the Modi government of indifference and prioritizing political campaigns over addressing the needs of Manipur’s citizens.
