Islamabad: Mushaal Hussein Mullick, the wife of the Kashmiri freedom leader Yasin Malik, has urged for intellectual, legal, and concerted political efforts to address the ongoing Kashmir dispute.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Mushaal Mullick made these remarks at a seminar titled “From Struggle to Unity: Re-imagining Kashmir’s Future” held at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). She highlighted the hardships faced by Kashmiris, including lockdowns, restrictions, and a lack of basic facilities, which she described as reflecting an inhumane approach by India toward the region.
Mullick stressed the importance of a practical approach tailored to contemporary circumstances, warning against efforts that do not yield tangible results. She accused India of systematically altering the region’s dynamics through the genocide of Kashmiris and planned settlements. She also noted that Kashmiris have rejected Indian elections, which she claimed were manipulated.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi, the APHC-AJK Convener, described atrocities in Kashmir as a routine occurrence, contributing to an ongoing human rights crisis. He called on the United Nations to enforce its Security Council resolutions on Kashmir and urged the international community to address what he termed as an ongoing genocide.
Abdullah Khan from the Pakistan Institute of Conflict and Strategic Studies underscored the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue as a core commitment and fundamental right. He advocated for the role of educational institutions in raising awareness and called for academic research to support Pakistan’s stance internationally.
Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Dean of Social Sciences, expressed concern over global indifference to the Kashmir dispute, highlighting economic hardship as a strategy to suppress the Kashmiri struggle. Dr. Ghufran Ali and Dr. Amna Mehmood also emphasized the historical significance and resilience of the Kashmiri struggle, calling for a deeper understanding and a composed strategy to advocate for the cause globally.
The seminar concluded with an interactive session, encouraging dialogue on the future of the Kashmir cause.
