Concern expressed over continued house detention of Mirwaiz

Srinagar, February 17, 2023 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Anjuman Auqaf of Srinagar Jamia Masjid has expressed concern over the continued illegal house detention of its chief and senior APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The Anjuman Auqaf in a statement issued in Srinagar said today was the 182nd consecutive week that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was neither allowed to offer Friday prayers nor address the faithful at the historic Jamia Masjid. This is extremely unfortunate, shameful and condemnable to restrict Kashmir’s top religious leader from performing his religious duties, it said.

The Anjuman termed this attitude of the authorities as highly condemnable, saying the people are showing disappointment and resentment against the administration for not releasing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq even after the prolonged house arrest of over three and a half years and in view of the arrival of the Shab-e-Meraaj. The Anjuman, reiterating its demand for the release of the Mirwaiz said, “People are unable to understand why he has been kept under illegal and arbitrary detention for such a long time without any reason.”
