Islamabad: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) hosted a pivotal stakeholder engagement session to advocate for the inclusion of manufacturing, packaging, and expiry or best before dates on cement bags, marking a significant move towards enhancing consumer protection.
According to Competition Commission of Pakistan, the session was chaired by Mr. Saeed Ahmed Nawaz, Member CCP, and attended by various stakeholders including the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, cement manufacturers, and representatives from the construction and legal sectors.
The discussions highlighted the importance of transparent packaging labels to prevent misleading consumers and to uphold fair-market principles. The session concluded with a collective agreement on the need for clear disclosure of packaging dates and storage requirements on cement bags, setting a three-week deadline for the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association to consult further and report back on the implementation of these recommendations.
